Deep Sub
Shark Adventures
Discover
the deepest diving non-commercial submarine on the planet, and go where few
humans have been before - beyond imagination. In
2005 CEO and adventurer Patric Douglas discovered this
remarkable operation and spent 6 hours on a sea cliff wall at 1700'
staring into the deep green eyes of a 18 foot Six Gill. "It
was a pinnacle moment for me, surrounded by an eerily
quiet moonscape and deep water creatures that I had
never seen before outside of a marine lab.I thought
at that moment that it does not get much better than
this". While
unique, this adventure is also a pinnacle adventure,
it's something that you'll be talking about for years
to come. Shark
Diver is the only commercial shark diving operation on
the planet to offer deep submarine adventures to
dive with pre-historic Six Gill sharks ( Hexanchus
griseus ) off the Cayman Trench at depths
up to 2000'. The Six Gills we will be encountering normally
live at depths in excess of 6000' and can grow to an astounding
20 feet in length. Typically the sharks you will encounter
will be on the huge side as these are true deep water monster
sharks, not the much smaller cousins you'll find on some
tanked dives elsewhere in the world. Unless you work for
Woods Hole or have an unlimited budget like deep water
filmmaker James Cameron, this kind of adventure is just
not available to the general public...until now.
The
Ultimate Sub Adventure
You and a guest
will join Shark Diver for an extraordinary week of Caribbean
sun, regular two and three tank boat dives, a morning of
diving without cages with up to 30 Caribbean Reef Sharks
(C.perezi) at a time and your own private submarine diving
adventure that will last almost 5 hours and take you into
the deepest sea realm to encounter animals that few if any
divers have ever seen in person.
You'll stay with us at the famous
Anthony's Key Resort in Roatan who has been serving up the spirit
of adventure with relish, including diving spectacular reefs,
interacting with dolphins, and much more while never forgetting
comfort or hospitality. In the world of shark diving you can go
where others go or you can discover something that few others
on the planet have
ever seen before.

Weekly Schedule
Day 1 Arrival
Welcome to the Caribbean. Divers arrive via
direct flight in most cases to Roatan, Honduras and will be transported
to your hotel by the friendly staff at Anthony's Keys Resort. Once
you have settled in join us for an evening cocktail party by the
poolside. It's a great way to unwind after a day of travel and
it's an easy way to meet the other adventure divers in our small
group of 10.
Day 2
The next morning, after a terrific breakfast, our group will board our
own vessel and go for the first of many spectacular dives
here in Roatan. Today we will do a three tank dive and get to know
the local crews and the boat. This evening the first two sub divers
will join our pilot in Half Moon Bay for the experience of a lifetime
while the rest of our group sleep the night away...don't worry you'll
hear all about their deep water monster shark encounter tomorrow
on the boat. All meals are included, and at Anthony's Key no one
ever goes hungry...the food is great. This includes coffee, tea,
milk and juices. Soda and alcoholic beverages are available at
an additional charge. Once a week, they hold a lively beach party
and barbecue at Tabyana beach, an Island Fiesta Night and a luncheon
on the key. These meals and entertainment are also included.
Day 3
After a leisurely breakfast our divers will meet at the boat again
and enjoy a full day of scuba. We may take advantage of one of many
wreck dives this morning or visit one of the many wall dives here. The
island's reefs and drop-offs are teeming with colorful marine life
and are ideally suited for novices and experts alike. Surrounded
by the longest barrier reef in the hemisphere, Roatan offers everything
from hard-core wrecks and deep fissures to peaceful eel gardens
and shallow terraces where countless macro photo opportunities
abound. Coral grows thickly on walls that begin in crystalline
waters as shallow as 20 feet below the surface and drop to the
purple depths of the Caribbean. Squadrons of eagle ray, schools
of brightly colored tropical fish, the occasional meandering shark
are jut a few of the sites that delight divers. Several large wrecks
have also been submerged near the resort, awaiting exploration.
With water temperatures averaging 80 degrees or warmer, gentle
currents and visibility ranging from 50 to 100 feet, Roatan is
a favorite among visitors who prefer their diving colorful, thrilling
and unswerving. The choice is ours and our group can discover dives
as they see fit. Tonight another two lucky divers will discover
deep water submarine diving, while the rest of us do a regular
night dive on the reef.
Day 4
This morning we are going to mix things up a bit. Half our group
will join us for a cage-less Grey Reef shark encounter at the
other end of Roatan. While the rest of the divers enjoy a day
of reef and wreck dives. Not to worry, we'll be taking the other
5 divers for this encounter later in the week. Smaller groups
are better when diving with 20-30 reef sharks. Tonight another
two lucky divers will be deep diving with the giant deep water
sharks.
The rest of this
adventure week offers more unique dives, deep water shark encounters
and of course cage-less shark encounters with Grey Reef sharks.
We'll also be visiting the 300' Odyssey. This huge wreck provides
visitors to the island numerous dive opportunities to fully view
the multi-level ship, which measures 85 feet from keel to mast
and 300 feet from bow to stern. From Anthony's a 12-minute boat
ride east finds the Odyssey resting on a sandy flat. Divers may
follow the top of the mast at 40 feet and descend to the top
of the bow at 70 feet. Then explore the bulwarks or cargo hole
level at 80 feet, the bow at 107 feet and the stern at 120 feet.

The Cayman Trench
The massive submarine
trench located on the floor of the western Caribbean Sea between
Jamaica and the Cayman Islands extends from the Windward Passage
at the southeastern tip of Cuba toward Guatemala. The relatively
narrow trough trends east-northeast to west-southwest and has a
maximum depth of 25,216 feet (7,686 m), the deepest point in the
Caribbean Sea. This is where you'll dive with Shark Diver in search
of one of the oceans rarest and largest sharks. It's an extreme
diving adventure that lives up to every sense of the word.
