This image was shot in the Bahamas in 2011 it is an animal that tangled with fishermen in 2010, sporting what looks like a broken jaw and leaving this animal with a somewhat Popeyed look.
We have since named this wonderful girl Popeye.
For those on the front lines of commercial shark diving, images like these are hard to comprehend, and even harder to witness in person. As commercial shark diving operators and shark divers we are often the first to report problems with sharks, or in this case the effects of poor catch and release protocols for large sharks.
Images like these can be used to make a case for lasting protections for all sharks in the region.
As we have often pointed out One Shark can make a difference.
Hopefully fishermen in the Bahamas will begin to see the wisdom in catch and release methodology with sharks that leave these animals in a better place. Broken jaws and sharks don't mix.
Fortunately for Popeye, she has friends below.

shark diving, shark conservation and things we find "amusing."
